Role Purpose:
Join our dynamic team as the Tunnel Supervisor on the M25 DBFO Network, where you’ll lead a skilled group of M&E Maintenance Technicians. In this exciting role, you’ll be responsible for briefing your team on their tasks, conducting site visits to ensure safety, efficiency, and effectiveness, and overseeing all aspects of people management for the directly employed workforce.
You’ll play a key role in liaising with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including the Tunnel Maintenance Manager, Tunnel Maintenance Coordinator, O&M Schedulers, Depot Shift Manager, Network & Tunnels Operations Centre, Highways England, and sub-contractors. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of maintaining and improving one of the UK’s busiest transport networks, making a real impact on the safety and efficiency of our operations.
What you will be doing:
- To be conversant with the operation of all electrical / mechanical plant within the Dartford River Crossing, other M25 Tunnels and M25 pumpstations.
- Responsible for the delivery of Zero Harm objectives by increasing our awareness of risks, driving risk mitigation, and leading by example to embed a proactive safety culture across Service Delivery and our supply chain.
- Support delivery of CPS’s Business Plan Objectives in Service Delivery by striving to meet their PDR objectives, and setting aligned and ‘SMART’ objectives for direct reports.
- Prepare and deliver suitable works briefings, which adequately identify the work methodology, highlight the onsite hazards & risks along with control measures to be implemented.
- Ensure that all work activities are adequately managed ensuring that the identified works methodology is adhered to and control measures are implemented in accordance with the briefing.
- Positively engage with directly employed and subcontract workforce to highlight issues with the methodology and / or identified control measures and together develop a solution which enables works to be completed in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure that a detailed debrief is completed for all works activities at the end of each shift so that any identified issues can be resolved, and lessons learnt are fed into the delivery of future work activities.
- Take an active role in the compliance of Contractual requirements including Primary Response, Secondary Response, reactive & planned preventative maintenance, Environmental Protection Act 1990, and Severe Weather.
- Carry out pre-site inspections of all defect sites and planned preventative maintenance locations to identify work methodology and all resource requirements to ensure efficient delivery of works and co-ordination opportunities.
- First line management of all M&E Maintenance operatives for day to day people management including development, succession, training, performance, conduct, annual leave requests, timekeeping, absence management, ensuring that all issues are dealt with promptly and that accurate records are maintained and issues escalated as required.
- Maintain sufficient levels of resource are in place to ensure the safe delivery of all works activities and highlight at an early stage any areas of risk to the programme and identify potential solutions.
- Ensure that accurate records are maintained for all activities; these records need to record the works completed, the resources used, and the associated costs allocated correctly. Ensure that information is collected to demonstrate 3rd party accountability and proof of works completed to provide assurance to our client.
- Participate in the production of risk assessments and method statements. Involve the workforce to identify gaps and areas for improvement within our current risk assessments and method statements and feed this information into future revisions.
- Delivery of toolbox talks, engaging the workforce to ensure good understanding of the subject matter and provide feedback for continual improvement.
- Management of fleet including compliance with Drivers Hours recording and Vehicle Defect reporting.

Who we are looking for?
The following qualities/experience are essential:
Qualifications & Skills:
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship
- Relevant qualifications e.g. City & Guilds Level 3
- 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations
- Authorised Person in LV & HV is a strength.
- MEWPS
- Confined spaces training
- Inspection & Testing C&G 2391
- CSCS / ECS Card (Supervisor Grade)
- Qualify as an Approved Person under the BB ESSW requirement for HV and LV work
Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge and experience of generators and switchgear to 11KV
- Fault finding using schematic drawings.
- All round experience in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Maintenance
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation
- Ability to carry out electrical installation work to current legislation.
- Previous Road Tunnels or Building Maintenance
- Previous experience in highway maintenance programs delivered to cost target and time
- Knowledge and experience of health and safety and quality and environment standards within a highway’s context
- Competent user of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook (or equivalent)
- Current UK driving license
- Proven experience of managing & leading multidisciplinary teams
- The ability to communicate verbally with clarity and authority to engage operatives, colleagues, and management.
- The ability to write clear and understandable briefings and handover notes and keep full and accurate records.

Line management of operatives
Daywork – Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Nightwork – Monday to Friday 20:00 to 05:00 (3 weeks every 3 months)
