Are you an innovative engineer ready to tackle complex challenges? As a Methods Engineer for the Dartford Tunnels and QE2 Bridge, you’ll lead design and construction activities for one of the UK’s most vital transport networks.
Purpose of the Role
The Methods Engineer is responsible for coordinating and managing design and construction activities across the Dartford Tunnels and QE2 Bridge. This includes providing technical input, challenging designs, and proposing innovative solutions for complex projects in a live operational environment. The role focuses on improving safety by design and delivering cost-effective, high-quality engineering solutions to enhance strategic infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate design and construction activities, acting as the interface between site operations and the design/engineering teams.
- Lead design and method workshops, ensuring efficient, compliant, and safe execution of engineering solutions onsite.
- Manage design delivery, including reviewing and approving proposals from framework contractors and external consultants.
- Prepare and review Temporary Works Briefs, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and weekly programmes.
- Ensure compliance with specifications, quality assurance records, and activity control plans while raising and resolving Technical Queries (TQs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Identify construction hazards, implement controls, and proactively address issues in planned methodologies.
- Collaborate with the CPS Asset Team to develop forward asset management plans and achieve project goals.
- Monitor and review deliverables to ensure design completeness and compliance prior to submission to stakeholders, including National Highways.
- Manage the optioneering and feasibility of design solutions, focusing on whole-life costing.
- Prepare and review contract documentation and liaise with statutory bodies and stakeholders.
- Promote best practices and ensure that safety, sustainability, and quality standards are upheld.
Accountabilities
- Deliver projects on time, within scope, and budget, ensuring alignment with internal and contractual standards.
- Serve as the engineering liaison between Dartford operations and design teams, promoting safety by design and zero harm.
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and contribute to the business’s sustainability goals.
- Represent the Engineering Design Team at community forums and internal reviews.
What We’re Looking For
- A degree/HND in Engineering and professional membership (ICE/IET/IMechE preferred).
- Strong knowledge of bridge/tunnel design, asset management, and safety legislation (CDM).
- Hands-on experience in design coordination and delivering innovative engineering solutions.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.

Location:
This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximise team collaboration on the project, we therefore expect a minimum of 60% of your time to be spent at a CPS offices.
