ROLE PURPOSE
As the Asset Delivery Inspection Lead, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the delivery of a £10m annual programme of inspections across multiple asset types, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency are at the forefront. You will work collaboratively with Delivery Leads, internal teams, and external partners to define and execute a clear, comprehensive inspection programme that meets contractual and statutory obligations.
This role involves:
- Defining inspection strategies and processes to optimise delivery, balancing internal resources and subcontractors.
- Establishing safe and efficient work procedures, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and fostering a robust safety culture across the team.
- Managing and leading the inspection team, including specialists and subcontractors, to deliver results within budget and quality expectations.
- Acting as the primary interface with internal stakeholders, external contractors, National Highways, and other key partners to align on objectives and resolve issues effectively.
- Collaborating with the Asset & Network Planning function to align inspection volumes with planning cycles and supporting the organisation’s talent development and retention goals.
Your leadership will be instrumental in enhancing inspection efficiency and driving process improvements, ensuring timely, accurate data capture to support better decision-making.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety
- Demonstrate exemplary safety leadership, embedding the principles of Making Safety Personal across all inspection activities.
- Ensure team members and subcontractors adhere to the Business Management System and industry safety standards.
Reporting and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies in all inspection activities.
- Prepare and present monthly reports on inspection progress to clients and senior leadership.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary contact for inspection-related queries, escalating critical issues when needed to achieve prompt resolutions.
Resource Allocation
- Work with Delivery Leads to manage resources effectively, fostering resilience and flexibility within the team and supply chain.
- Collaborate with Asset & Network Planning to define inspection requirements and align resources accordingly.
Process Ownership
- Oversee all inspection delivery processes, ensuring high standards in scheduling, execution, and reporting.
- Continuously improve inspection methodologies to enhance efficiency and provide accurate, actionable data to asset customers.
People Leadership
- Lead and inspire a diverse team of inspection professionals, ensuring clarity in delivery targets, fostering professional growth, and promoting a positive, inclusive culture.
Budget Management
- Monitor and control inspection budgets, implementing measures to enhance financial and operational performance.
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA REQUIRED
- Proven experience managing large-scale inspection programmes or similar high-volume planned activities across multiple asset types.
- Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing teams in a matrix organisation.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects under pressure.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations and standards within the industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field OR equivalent industry experience.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Project Management Professional [PMP], SMSTS).

Location:
This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximise team collaboration on the project, we therefore expect a minimum of 60% of your time to be spent at a CPS offices.
