About the Role
Balfour Beatty is looking for a Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Connect Plus Services (CPS) team. This role can be based at South Mimms, Dartford, or Leatherhead and will involve travel across the M25 network.
CPS is a Joint Venture project with Balfour Beatty, AtkinsRéalis, and Egis. We operate and maintain the M25—the busiest section of motorway in Europe. Careful and efficient planning is required to deliver over £100m of annual investment in highway infrastructure each year, in addition to planned and reactive maintenance activities.
The purpose of this role is to assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety, and well-being risks within the project. The role supports our ambition to be a safe and responsible company regarding our people, supply chain partners, and the communities we serve.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Act as a visible champion for health, safety, and wellbeing (HSW), engaging with operatives and managers across the project.
- Oversee the implementation of organisational standards related to HSW, providing feedback to HSW Managers on areas for improvement.
- Monitor the delivery of the communications strategy to keep HSW on the operational delivery agenda and report on its effectiveness.
- Support the delivery of appropriate and adequate HSW training based on project needs.
- Monitor and manage the closeout of HSW-related “Don’t Walk By” reports.
- Conduct targeted inspections of the HSW management system and supply chain audits, tracking and supporting action closeouts.
- Plan, schedule, and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site and depot-based teams.
- Prepare and communicate reports and presentations detailing performance data, including inspection findings and progress on actions.
- Represent the HSW function positively in meetings and conference calls.
- Review work activities against the safety system of work, providing documented advice and taking appropriate actions where necessary.
- Support incident investigations, ensuring they are dealt with effectively and actions are tracked to completion.
Working Arrangements
- Base location: South Mimms, Dartford, or Leatherhead (flexible).
- Regular travel across the M25 network with a company car provided.
- Night shift health and safety inspections required approximately one week per month, with occasional weekend work.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Professional qualification in health and safety (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
- Current CSCS Card.
- Clean, full driving license.
- Ability to maintain a regular nighttime and weekend presence.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms to review data, identify trends, and create representative graphs.

Location:
This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximize team collaboration on the project, we therefore expect a minimum of 60% of your time to be spent at a CPS offices.
