Role Purpose:

Are you ready to play a crucial role in keeping one of the world’s busiest highways running smoothly?

As a Tunnel Maintenance Operative, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring the seamless operation of the M25 Tunnels and Pump Stations. You’ll be a member of a team that is the go-to for performing vital maintenance tasks, supporting our skilled crew under the guidance of the Tunnel Maintenance Supervisor.

Your day-to-day will include a dynamic mix of hands-on activities, from general upkeep to responding to unexpected challenges, making every day different and exciting. While this role doesn’t include financial responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead the way by guiding visitors and students, showcasing the fascinating inner workings of the tunnel systems.

You’ll work closely with our dedicated internal teams, including the Tunnel Maintenance Supervisor and Service Delivery Management, and collaborate with external partners such as National Highways and various contractors. What you will be doing:

  • To drive the tunnel vehicles when required, either on planned maintenance closures or on reactive works.
  • To assist Tunnel Maintenance Technicians with completion of maintenance tasks
  • To complete daily worksheets, and maintenance report sheets where applicable to your works e.g. drive through sheets.
  • To observe all safety procedures and instructions
  • To provide escort to appointed sub-contractors ensuring all comply with site rules.
  • Carry out any work of a manual, semi-skilled or skilled nature of any type of trade description (including “out of trade” work) under the instructions of the Tunnel Maintenance Supervisor
  • Any other duties within your capacity as when required by the Line Managers

Experience Required:

 

Skill & Qualifications:

  • Clean UK Driver’s License
  • HGV Class 1 or 2 professional driving license
  • Valid CPC Drivers Card
  • IPAF Trained for MEWPS & Booms (preferred)
  • Confined space trained (preferred)
  • CSCS Safety Card or equivalent
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation
  • Ability to work without direct supervision when requested

 

Personal attributes:

  • Willing to comply with additional training requirements for National Highways works.
  • Experience of Mechanical / Electrical Maintenance environment and regimes.
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • A confident and professional manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
