Blog: The Great British Spring Clean 2025
By Rebecca Gysin, Environmental and Sustainability Manager at Connect Plus Services.
Litter is a continuously growing concern, with a record amount dropped across the M25 network each year – In a year from April 2024-2025 alone, a massive 10,400 bags were collected by our teams. This litter not only looks unsightly but damages the environment and endangers local wildlife.
As an effort to increase awareness and to reduce the negative impact of litter on our surrounding communities, we again joined the Great British Spring Clean campaign; the nation’s largest mass-action environmental campaign. Organised by Keep Britain Tidy, it encourages everyone to make a difference in their communities by either hosting or participating in a litter pick activity.
We organised three litter pick events in the surrounding communities at our Leatherhead, Dartford and South Mimms depots. There was a fantastic turn out, together collecting over 50 bags of litter.
Whilst we have taken part in these litter picks, some of our CPS team have also supported the cause in their own communities and earned their titles of #LitterHeroes.
By taking part, it has also been a great use of our staff ‘volunteering time’ – whereby we’re encouraged to use two paid days each year to support causes in our communities.
